Sony's VPL-VW5000ES is at the moment the best true 4K home theater projector currently shipping. There are more coming to market, but for now, the VW5000ES is unbeatable. Sony's flagship VW5000ES is a $60,000, 5000 lumen true 4K . In the video above, you'll see Michael From Sony explaining the Sony VPL-VW5000ES 4K laser projector at the VAF Demo Night.
Amazing Picture! True Native 4K design (4096×2160) no pixel shifting
5000 Lumens - Much brighter than most HT projectors (a very good thing)
Excellent “right out of the box” color and picture
ARC-F lens – high quality glass that is more expensive than most home theater projectors
Support for 4K, HDR, larger color spaces BT2020, 4:4:4
Very quiet (liquid cooled)
Laser light engine – long life – no lamps to replace, other benefits
1,000,000:1 contrast ratio thanks to Dynamic iris for deeper blacks, and no light on black frames
3 year parts and labor warranty
Stackable for double the brightness
Lots of lens shift – both horizontal and vertical
Sony’s Reality Creation firmware upscales 1080 content to 4K
So, for now, no question, the VW5000ES rules. It’s bigger, badder, quieter (being liquid cooled), laser light engine, overall great performance, and a, by far, best in class 5000 lumens for tackling HDR content.
Color is outstanding, Skin tones were typically beautiful and natural looking. But, the wider color gamut – BT2020 (REC709 is the standard for 1080p), provides colors that seem closer to real life in saturation, and realism.
And along comes HDR – High Dynamic Range, which thanks to being the brightest 4K home theater projector around, just creates an image with more pop to it.
It was a sad day when I had to surrender Sony’s VPL-VW5000ES back to Sony, after almost two full months of viewing. I’ll finish by repeating how I started this summary, by stating that The VW5000ES produced the most amazing imagery to ever grace my dedicated home theater, with it’s 2.35:1 “wide screen”, for viewing a nicely large 124” diagonal image.
Awesome! And that folks is why the VPL-VW5000ES earned our 2016 Best Projector of the Year award. (Even though this didn’t get published until Jan 2017.)
Really want one? This Sony still costs about the same as a “well equipped (but not “loaded”) Lexus SUV, and gets better mileage (well, after all, it is all electric).
When Sony fired up its new VPL-VW5000ES 4K home theatre projector at the recent TT Expo organised by Inside Out London, you could audibly hear jaws thud onto the floor. Sony’s most ambitious home theatre projector was making its first appearance in Europe, and it very quickly became clear that in the world of projection technology nothing was ever going to be quite the same again. Inside CI was afforded the opportunity to get a hands-on with this ground-breaking projector, and we’ve got to say we were blown away.
